Hundreds of members of the legal community, government officials and others who knew the late Court of Appeals Judge Sheila Abdus-Salaam, whose body was found floating in the Hudson River on April 12, gathered on Friday at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine on the Upper West Side of Manhattan to pay their respects. Among those in attendance were Abdus-Salaam’s colleagues on the Court of Appeals, former New York Gov. David Paterson, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. and former Assemblyman Keith Wright.

Among the speakers at the service was Fern Fisher, deputy chief administrative judge for New York City courts, who said during her remarks that Abdus-Salaam “ascended to the highest court in the state but kept her feet on the ground.”
