The Office of the Appellate Defender will host its 23rd annual “First Monday in October” fundraiser tonight. The Wednesday date was selected to avoid a conflict with Rosh Hashana.

Lewis Liman, a partner at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, and David Zornow, a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, will receive the Gould Award for legal advocacy. They will argue Apple, Inc. v. FBI, a hypothetical case that confronts the tension between individual privacy and the needs of law enforcement in a digital age.
