Sponsors say a bill signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo will make participating in drug- or alcohol-treatment diversion programs more convenient for offenders.

The legislation amends the Criminal Procedure Law by allowing offenders who qualify for a diversion program away from incarceration and toward treatment in the court jurisdiction of their offense to participate in a parallel treatment program offered by the jurisdiction in which they are living.
