A unanimous First Department panel ruled that a law firm and one of its partners will have to pay $20,000, not the nearly $320,000 awarded by a matrimonial judge, saying that the firm's conduct had been "frivolous" in one phase of a bitterly contested visitation dispute, but the court already awarded fees incurred by the opposing party.

The Appellate Division, First Department, vacated most of the nearly $320,000 in sanctions against a law firm and one of its partners awarded by a Manhattan matrimonial judge.
Instead, the panel said, Mallow, Konstam, Mazur, Bocketti & Nisonoff and partner Abe Konstam will have to pay $20,000.
