A process for reviewing bail decisions in New York City misdemeanor cases will begin Monday, as court administrators carry out Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman’s efforts to overhaul what he called a “broken system of bail.”
In October, Lippman announced a series of initiatives to address an “unsafe, unfair bail system” that keeps some defendants in jail only because they are unable to pay (NYLJ, Oct. 2).
