A Nassau County Surrogate on Thursday temporarily barred the receiver of the $11 million Kermit Gitenstein Foundation from dispensing foundation funds pending the conclusion of an inquiry by an independent investigator.

Attorney Steven Schlesinger was appointed as receiver by former Surrogate John Riordan in 2007, after the last foundation trustee, Shirley Gitenstein, died without naming an executor or leaving any heirs.
