A Bronx Housing Court judge ruled that an email exchange between two attorneys constituted a binding settlement agreement, even though one client disowned it prior to a stipulation of settlement being signed.

Judge John Henry Stanley said an eviction action filed by Wayne Jones against his brother, Robert Jones, was settled when Wayne told his lawyer to pay Robert $1,000 and waive any claim to $11,000 in back rent Robert owed, in return for Robert relinquishing any claim to the subsidized apartment the two had inherited from their mother.
