The U.S. Department of Justice and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office pledged a combined $79 million Thursday to help clear tens of thousands of rape kits that have gone untested across the country.

The Justice Department will provide $41 million in federal funds while Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said his office will give $38 million to local and state law enforcement agencies in 20 states.
