A former staffer of the New York Civil Liberties Union who claims executive director Donna Lieberman discriminated against him because he is gay and male is challenging a state agency’s dismissal of his claim that he was fired in retaliation for filing a complaint.

Kerry Watterson, who worked as director of development for the NYCLU from 2011 to 2013, alleges that during his tenure Lieberman berated him in front of fellow staffers and at a public event, excluded him from meetings because of his gender and made jokes about his sexuality.
