Acting Staten Island Supreme Court Justice Robert Collini, who was known among his colleagues for being serious on the bench but jocular in chambers, died on Sunday at his home in Pleasant Plains after battling cancer for several months. He was 57.

Collini was appointed to the Court of Claims by Gov. George Pataki in 2001 and then tapped as an acting Supreme Court justice the same year.
