ALBANY – Although Graubard Miller “flooded” long-standing client Alice Lawrence with information about her late husband’s disputed real estate holdings, it failed to warn her of the risks of entering into a contingency fee arrangement that resulted in a windfall to the firm, her estate’s lawyer told the state Court of Appeals Tuesday.

Daniel Kornstein insisted that Graubard Miller’s bill for $44 million for a settlement it secured in Lawrence’s favor in a real estate matter involving her late husband was unconscionable. He urged the court to accept the Appellate Division, First Department’s, payment reduction to an hourly fee-based $3 million.
