SEVERAL state and federal courts are closed and others opened late Thursday in response to the biggest snowfall to hit New York so far this winter.

In U.S. District Court for the Southern District, the Manhattan courthouse opened late, at 11 a.m., while courthouses in Middletown and White Plans are closed. Eastern District courts opened at 11 a.m. as well, though the court advised lawyers and the public to check with judges’ chambers to confirm scheduled events. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit opened late at 10:30 a.m.
