On Sept. 3, 2013, a unique multidisciplinary center, the Resource Center for Separating and Divorcing Families, opened on the University of Denver campus.1 The model for the resource center was developed by the Honoring Families Initiative (HFI) at the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System (IAALS),2 as part of its efforts to identify changes in the divorce and separation and parental responsibility processes for the better. The author is a consultant to IAALS and HFI in the development of the resource center.
Years in the planning, the resource center provides comprehensive and affordable legal dispute resolution and therapeutic and educational services for separating and divorcing families in the Denver Metro area. It is simultaneously a hub for training law students, social work students and psychology students in interdisciplinary family law practice and for research and development in family law related services.
