The question on allowing some state judges to remain on the bench until age 80 will be listed last among the six proposed amendments to the state Constitution appearing on Nov. 5's statewide ballot. The Board of Elections has certified the placement of the proposed amendments and the wording of the questions, which will appear after the names of all individual candidates and the offices they are seeking.

The retirement amendment is entitled "Increasing Age until which Certain State Judges Can Serve." The 117-word description says the change would allow state Supreme Court justices to serve five two-year terms past the retirement age of 70 instead of the current three and that Court of Appeals judges would be allowed to remain on that bench for up to 10 years past age 70 (NYLJ, June 22).
