Brooke Astor's son Anthony Marshall, who was convicted more than three years ago of taking advantage of his philanthropist mother's dementia to steal millions of dollars from her estate, will begin serving his long-deferred prison sentence on Friday after losing a bid for a new trial.

Acting Supreme Court Justice A. Kirke Bartley (See Profile) ordered Marshall to surrender in court at 2:30 on Friday. He had originally been ordered to surrender on Thursday, but managed to win a one-day stay from the Appellate Division, First Department. That stay was lifted Thursday afternoon.
