A federal judge threw out a libel action yesterday filed against ESPN by the wife of former Syracuse University basketball coach Bernie Fine, ruling that the six statements Laurie Fine objected to are privileged as "fair and true" reports of a judicial proceeding.

The case, Fine v. ESPN, 5:12-cv-0836, stems from ESPN reports that a former ball boy for the Syracuse team, Robert Davis, had alleged in an affidavit that Laurie Fine had had sex with team members.
