The longtime chairwoman of the Assembly Judiciary Committee, and the only woman to ever hold the position, has been reappointed by Speaker Sheldon Silver. Helene Weinstein, D-Brooklyn, who has been in the Assembly since 1981, will continue to chair the committee she has led since 1993. Weinstein, 60, is a graduate of New England School of Law.

In the upper chamber, Senator John Bonacic, R-Mount Hope, was reassigned to the Senate Judiciary Committee by Majority Leader Dean Skelos, R-Rockville Centre. Bonacic, 70, a Fordham University School of Law graduate and former Orange County assistant district attorney, has chaired the committee since 2011. He was elected to the Senate in 1998 after serving four terms in the Assembly.
