Less than three months after agreeing to represent Paul Ceglia on his claim to an ownership stake in Facebook, lawyers at Milberg LLP are asking a federal district court judge in Buffalo to allow them to drop the case. On May 30, Milberg and two other co-counselCalihan Law and Jones & Skivingtonmoved to withdraw as Ceglia’s counsel.
Milberg announced in March that it was joining Ceglia’s team. In a statement released at the time, Milberg chair Sanford Dumain said, “We took a good hard look at all of the information available, including evidence in Mr. Ceglia’s favor, and we believe he deserves to have his day in court.” Milberg declined to comment on why the firm bowed out of the case. According to the filing, Dumain also submitted a declaration for the judge to review in chambers, in keeping with local rules.
