Steven M. Cohen, former secretary to Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, is joining Zuckerman Spaeder to lead its New York office, the firm announced today. Mr. Cohen will focus on “crisis management, government investigations and white-collar criminal defense, and complex commercial and regulatory matters,” according to the firm.

Zuckerman Spaeder, based in Washington, D.C., said Mr. Cohen’s hire was part of the firm’s strategy to expand and develop its New York office, which it opened in 2004 and now has four partners, including Mr. Cohen. The office’s high-profile cases include representing former International Monetary Fund director Dominique Strauss-Kahn against recently dismissed rape charges.
