U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced on Monday that after a two-year investigation, the Justice Department and seven state attorneys general had filed a suit against Visa, MasterCard and American Express for preventing merchants from promoting or encouraging consumers to use competing cards with lower fees.
Mr. Holder also said that Visa and MasterCard had agreed to settle the suit, which was filed in federal court in Brooklyn.
