Following months of partner departures in New York, Nixon Peabody saw another two leave yesterday for Littler Mendelson, including the head of its international labor and employment specialty team. Philip M. Berkowitz will become the U.S. practice leader for Littler’s international employment and labor law practice group in New York. Mr. Berkowitz will be joined by Randy S. Gidseg, who in February made partner at Nixon, and some associates, though the exact number is unclear.

Mr. Berkowitz, a Law Journal columnist, joined Nixon in 2004 from Seyfarth Shaw. At Littler, he said he will help develop the firm’s international plans. Mr. Berkowitz said his departure “has nothing to do” with a series of recent departures by Nixon partners. Last month, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman hired five partners and nine other lawyers from Nixon, including Mats Carlston, who had been head of global finance. DLA Piper a week later capped off more than a month of raids on Nixon with the hiring of Michael Murphy, an insurance partner who was on Nixon’s governing policy committee. DLA has hired nine partners total from Nixon, six in New York. Mr. Carlston and Mr. Murphy together were the leaders of Nixon’s global strategies and international practice and had been two of the firm’s largest shareholders.
