The National Center for Women and Policing last week awarded Denise O’Donnell, the first woman U.S. attorney in upstate New York, its Lifetime Achievement Award at the group’s 14th Annual Leadership Conference in Saratoga Springs.

Ms. O’Donnell is the state deputy secretary for public safety, overseeing all homeland security and criminal justice agencies. She was appointed to the post earlier this year by Governor David A. Paterson. She previously served as commissioner of the state Division of Criminal Justice Services, appointed in 2007 by then-Governor Eliot Spitzer.
