A temporary guardian appointed by Housing Court overstepped her limited authority by agreeing to forfeit a mentally ill tenant’s apartment without the tenant’s consent, a judge has ruled.

Feng Chai Lin maintained that her Article 12 guardian ad litem went against her wishes by entering into a 2008 stipulation, which provided that Ms. Lin would be paid about $5,000 in return for vacating her apartment at 38 West 31st St.
