A newly-appointed leader of New York family courts on Wednesday urged Senate lawmakers to add more judges to the bench, while his New York City counterpart highlighted anti-bias training that’s hoped to eventually eradicate a documented culture of “dehumanizing” court users.

Exactly just how many more judges are needed wasn’t specified, but lawmakers passed a bill to add four Family Court judges in New York City in 2022, and earlier this year, the Senate and Assembly approved the addition of 13 judges across the state, of which three would serve in New York City.
