In New York’s Hudson Valley, the race for Ulster County District Attorney in the Nov. 7 general election pits Emmanuel Nneji against Michael Kavanagh, ex-colleagues who have sparred about who’d be the more compassionate prosecutor.

Nneji is a Nigerian immigrant who has served as a prosecutor for 32 years, most in the Ulster County DA’s office, and in the state attorney general’s office. His campaign said he’d be the county’s first Black district attorney.
