The criminal case brought by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office against former President Donald Trump will proceed under acting Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan, after a decision in which the judge declined to recuse himself.

Attorneys for Trump previously sought Merchan’s recusal, alleging Merchan could not be impartial due to his daughter’s work, his own political contributions, and his involvement in the criminal case of longtime Trump associate Allen Weisselberg.
