A man who impersonated New York-based attorneys as part of a million-dollar fraud scheme pleaded guilty to wire fraud and making false statements Thursday in Manhattan federal court.

Jonathan Ghertler, 61, pretended to be the general counsel of a New York-based private equity firm, the founder of another investment firm and a partner at a major law firm in the course of the scheme, he acknowledged to U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos of the Southern District of New York. Ghertler is not an attorney.
