Attorneys representing FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York appeared in federal court Thursday hours after prosecutors conceded that five of Bankman-Fried’s 13 charges should be severed from his indictment amid ongoing legal proceedings in the Bahamas, where he was arrested in late 2022.

In an order late Thursday afternoon, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan of the Southern District of New York granted the motion to sever and scheduled trial on those five counts for March. The trial on Bankman-Fried’s original charges is scheduled for October.
