Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler may continue its lawsuit against a pair of lawyers they claim violated a court order by helping a former Patterson Belknap client sell her $2.37 million diamond ring, a judge has ruled.

The firm last year sued attorneys David Marcus and Brian Cinelli, formerly of Marcus & Cinelli LLP. The complaint alleged the duo schemed with their ex-Patterson Belknap client Barbara Stewart to sell off her 24.79-carat Harry Winston diamond ring in a private sale. Stewart owes Patterson Belknap more than $3.5 million in legal fees, according to the complaint—and was barred in 2013 from selling or transferring any property without the approval of a judge.
