We take issue with a number of the representations that Robert Dobrish makes in his April 4, 2023, article “A Somewhat Modest Proposal for Custody Cases: Bring Back the GALs,” but we are particularly appalled by the clear misunderstanding of the critical role of the Attorney for the Child (AFC) in custody and visitation proceedings.

That misunderstanding appears to be based on Dobrish’s unabashed disdain for the well-accepted premise that children who are the subject of custody/visitation litigation deserve zealous advocacy and due process.
