Two weeks ago, we authored our first article on the Commission to Reimagine the Future of New York’s Courts’ report entitled “New York Court’s Response to the Pandemic.” //www.nycourts.gov/LegacyPDFS/press/pdfs/NYCourtsPandemicPracticesReport.pdf  The Report has so much to offer that it is taking a second article to set out the Commission’s recommendations seeking to revolutionize the face of our court system and its interface with the public.

This article will discuss some of the Commission’s suggestions not previously addressed including the means to effectuate its recommendations and to look into the future to avert the types of disabling situations that occurred during the pandemic and, significantly, includes the recommendation to allot more monies to the court system in order to implement structural changes to the way our courts operate.  These include courthouse modernization, more court staff who are appropriately trained in technology and universal e-filing.
