An independent judicial watchdog found that a town justice who has been on the bench in Ulster County for 24 years should be censured for engaging with pro-law enforcement and right-wing social media posts that it said casts doubt on his ability to be impartial in matters involving law enforcement.

According to documents released on Friday by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct (SCJC), Town of Lloyd Justice Terry Elia “liked” at least 12 LinkedIn posts indicating support for police and six political posts via his public profile on the platform—which conspicuously states that he is a judge—over 2020 and 2021.
