New York City Mayor Eric Adams and the attorneys general of four states on Monday announced that they have reached a settlement with the U.S. Postal Service resolving a 2019 lawsuit in which they accused the USPS of violating a 2009 anti-cigarette tracking law.

The city and the attorneys general of California, Connecticut, Illinois and Pennsylvania argued that the USPS was knowingly permitting packages containing cigarettes to travel through the mail, causing state and local governments to lose tax revenue and harming public health.
