Calling it the greatest privilege of her professional life, Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals and the State of New York Janet DiFiore is stepping down after nearly seven years, she said Monday.

The former elected district attorney of Westchester County, DiFiore is one of seven jurists on the high court, and her role includes oversight of New York’s $3 billion court system. She was nominated to the Court of Appeals by former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2015.
