In wake of former Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin’s indictment and resignation, it’s time New York joined nearly two dozen states in establishing a clear and inclusive process for a lieutenant gubernatorial succession, an association that represents nearly 9,000 attorneys in the New York City area said Friday.

As Gov. Kathy Hochul mulls appointing a successor to Benjamin, subject to legislative action, the New York County Lawyers Association called on the New York State Bar Association to establish a blue-ribbon task force to study, investigate and make recommendations for appropriate legislation to establish a clear and transparent statutory lieutenant gubernatorial succession process.
