Elections lawyers on Friday weighed in on the opinion by a trial judge in rural western New York that the state’s congressional maps were unconstitutional gerrymandering to benefit Democrats, a decision that suggests primary elections may need to be delayed.

Acting Steuben County state Supreme Court Justice Patrick McAllister on Thursday ruled that electoral maps produced by the Democratic-controlled legislature that were signed into law on Feb. 3 were unfair and needed to be redrawn.
