A veteran federal prosecutor who has handled cases against mob bosses and celebrities was named on Thursday to oversee criminal and civil antitrust litigation for the U.S. Justice Department.

Carol Sipperly will serve as acting deputy assistant attorney general in DOJ’s antitrust division, making her a top adviser to the division’s leader, Jonathan Kanter, who has vowed to toughen the department’s efforts against anti-competitive corporate behavior.
