New York Attorney General Letitia James announced Friday that she would run for governor, setting up a high-profile challenge to incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul in 2022.

James, a former New York City Council member who has served as the state’s top law enforcement official since 2019, said in a statement that she planned to bring “transformational change that uplifts all New Yorkers.”
