Prince Andrew, faced with limited options for avoiding a civil lawsuit in New York, may face a choice between settling claims that he sexually abused a victim of Jeffrey Epstein or taking a default judgment in the high-profile case, attorneys said this week.

The Duke of York, who suspended his royal duties in 2019 amid an uproar in response to allegations by Virginia Giuffre, almost certainly would not qualify for sovereign immunity under U.S. law, and was unlikely to receive the political backing of either the British government or the royal family, the experts agreed in a series of interviews.
