On the heels of a 2019 report laying out “failures” and breaches in area nonprofit student-pipeline programs aimed at bringing more racial minorities into the legal profession, the New York City Bar Association has issued a new report setting forth six intended actions to increase the effectiveness of the pipeline system for Black and Hispanic/Latinx aspiring lawyers.

The new research report, prepared by an independent consultant who conducted some 50 hours of interviews with Black and Hispanic/Latinx law students and lawyers and who surveyed 675 diversity-pipeline program participants, recommends actions be taken ranging from increasing awareness of pipeline programs for Black and Latinx/Hispanic students to encouraging high schools, undergraduate schools and law schools to develop seminars aimed at acclimating Black and Hispanic/Latinx students to law school before they begin their first years.
