A council at the New York City Bar Association is opposing a move by the state court system to push dozens of older judges off the bench to help address a 10% cut to the judiciary budget.

The bar association outlined its concerns at the beginning of the month in a letter to Chief Judge Janet DiFiore and Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence Marks. The court system last month reported that Gov. Andrew Cuomo is cutting the judiciary budget by about $300 million as the coronavirus pandemic batters the state budget.
