A group of law professors claimed in a new lawsuit Thursday that the Trump administration’s sanctions against members of the International Criminal Court for investigating possible war crimes by U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan were illegal and unconstitutional.

The complaint, filed in Manhattan federal court, came in response to a June 11 executive order, which imposed harsh penalties and travel restrictions for members of The Hague-based world court and their families, amid a probe into torture by the U.S. military and at Central Intelligence Agency black sites during the war on terror.
