Retail giant Target has agreed to pay $18.5 million in a settlement with 47 states, including New York, over a 2013 consumer data breach that resulted in over 100 million pieces of credit card or personal information being stolen by hackers.
“This settlement marks an important win for New Yorkers—bringing over $635,000 into the state, in addition to the free credit monitoring services for those impacted by the data breach, and key security improvements to help protect Target consumers moving forward,” New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said in a statement.
