When David W. Hutton arrived as the first GC of Sidney, Neb.-based Cabela's Inc., an outfitter of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, he wasn't exactly embraced with open arms. A senior manager had a sailfish mounted on the wall with a mannequin arm stuffed in its mouth clutching a subpoena bearing Hutton's name. The laughter ended abruptly when Hutton worked in-house to settle a class action for "an insignificant amount."
