The U.S. Chamber Litigation Center, the litigating arm of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, is looking a bit single-minded these days.
The main page of the center’s web site features five cases in which it recently filed amicus curiae briefs. Every one of them involves constitutional disputes over personal jurisdiction, a nonsexy but crucial area of the law that is getting a lot of attention these days. The cases test the circumstances under which businesses can be “haled into court,” as some briefs put it, in certain states when parties have weak or nonexistent connections to those states.
