While praising U.S. Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland’s qualifications as a judge, two major civil rights organizations this week raised concerns about Garland’s record on criminal justice and other issues.

In a 47-page report issued Friday, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund said Garland, chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, is “highly qualified to serve as a justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.”
