The Senate Judiciary Committee approved four nominations today, including a unanimous voice vote on Boies, Schiller & Flexner partner Tanya Chutkan to serve on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Chutkan, who breezed through her confirmation hearing on March 3, is a longtime former public defender with the D.C. Public Defender Service and would join one other African-American woman on the district court bench in Washington.

The committee also advanced with voice votes the nominations of Gregg Costa to be a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, M. Hannah Lauck to be a judge in the Eastern District of Virginia and Leo Sorokin for the District of Massachusetts federal bench.

The nomination of John Cruden to head the Environment and Natural Resources Division at the U.S. Department of Justice was also approved with a voice vote. Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., voting against.

The nominations will now go before the full Senate. No votes have been scheduled.
