In what attorneys have called the “World Cup” of probate litigation, Washington is the latest jurisdiction to be drawn into the 16-year fight over the multimillion-dollar estate of DHL Worldwide Express founder Larry Hillblom.

Following Hillblom’s death in 1995, attorneys around the globe have wrangled over estate entitlements, fees and allegations of misconduct. On April 7, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals revived the latest round of litigation, reversing the dismissal of a professional-negligence lawsuit brought by Hillblom’s heirs against their former tax advisers.
