Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn (Detroit): Phillip D. Torrence joins the firm as managing partner of the new Kalamazoo, Mich., office and partner in the corporate securities department. Torrence will focus on mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance, with a focus on venture capital and community banking. Additionally, Jonathan P. O’Brien joins the firm as partner and chairman of the intellectual property practice group. O’Brien will focus on life science and chemical patent procurement and enforcement. Previously, Torrence and O’Brien were senior partners at Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone.

PROMOTIONS

King & Spalding (Atlanta): Seven lawyers have been promoted to the partnership of the firm, effective on Jan. 1, 2009: in Atlanta, Anne M. Cox (corporate), Natasha H. Moffitt and Jill Wasserman (intellectual property); in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Nabil A. Issa (finance) and Wael M. Wahbeh (corporate); and, in Houston, Roberto J. Aguirre Luzi and Russell D. Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold (San Francisco): Linda A. Willett has been promoted to head of the firm’s drug and medical device practice group. Willett joined the firm in July and previously was vice president and deputy general counsel at Bristol-Myers Squibb Co.

Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel (New York): Michael Martinez joins the firm’s litigation department as special counsel. Martinez will focus on white-collar defense, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement actions and complex civil litigation. Previously, Martinez was an assistant U.S. attorney in the District of New Jersey.
