Following a lateral hiring frenzy in 2021, law firm hiring slowed by 11% generally in 2022. A new report indicates that hiring slowed even further in 2023 by 35% overall, with Florida seeing a significant slowdown.

The correction last year came after a 111% jump in overall lateral movement in 2021, according to a recent report from the National Association for Law Placement. Because hiring was so active in 2021, the lag seen over the past two years is more of a correction. And because Florida is an emerging market that saw a significant hiring bump in 2020 and 2021, it’s been on a course correction ever since.
